Our new identity for Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation is a typeface based on a sundial. Its weight and the direction of its stroke changes four times a day. The website similarly emphasizes context and change over time. A navigable 3D earth shows GSAPP’s footprint around the world. Graphical devices use various drawing or mark-making languages, including isometric illustration, halftone patterns, and more. Some areas of the site “color in” when you mouse over them.

The site was conceived as a “connection machine” and features databases of events, exhibitions, courses, student work, faculty, and more. Students, faculty, and staff can log in using Columbia’s central authentication system.

A flexible “Directory” features a growing alphabetical list of around a hundred different resource pages within the site.
